BALFOR's Cover Of SATYRICON's 'K.I.N.G.' Available For Streaming
October 19, 2008Ukrainian black metallers BALFOR have posted their cover version of SATYRICON's "K.I.N.G.". The track, which the band recorded at the Blacklight Studio in Kiev, will appear on the "Dominions of Satyricon" tribute CD that is due for release shortly on the Empire Records 606 label. BALFOR vocalist/guitarist Thorgeir commented, "I have a lot of respect for SATYRICON's work, and 'K.I.N.G.' is probably one of my favorite tracks of theirs, so I was really keen to get involved in the project. We didn't want to record a straight copy, and I think the style we chose to use for the guitar break probably makes it a little more 'metal' than the original, and I'm sure there will be the usual armchair critics ready to criticize us for our version, but what the hell, we all had a great time making it!"
Returning to BALFOR in time for the recording of "K.I.N.G." was the band's original drummer Erland, who had previously left to concentrate on other projects. "It's good to have Erland back in the ranks," Thorgeir said. "We were very lucky that he became available again at the right time to take over from the departing Vortigern. Vortigern is a great drummer and a good friend to the band, and his work on the new album is very much appreciated, but he wanted to move away from the style of music BALFOR plays, and into something completely different, and we wish him every success for the future."
The band, which plays what it describes as "barbaric black metal," which explores the warrior past of its country, is in the process of putting the finishing touches to its first full-length album "Barbaric Blood", and will shortly be looking for a conventional label for its release, having previously released their 2006 "Pure Barbaric" EP via the Internet.
"K.I.N.G.", along with two preview tracks from the new album, are available for streaming on BALFOR's MySpace page.
